CHICO -- Cal State Dominguez Hills ran into a buzz saw this afternoon in the form of perennial power Chico State after playing just one game in the past two weeks, and the result was a 17-3 rout at the hands of the Wildcats to kick off the CCAA ledger.
Tristan Usher paced the offense with a 2-for-4 effort as the Toros drop to 8-6 overall and 0-1 in the CCAA.
The hosts scored five runs in their first-inning at-bat before
Alex Sepulveda got the Toros on the board with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.
After the Wildcats answered with a single run, the Toros cut their deficit in half with two runs, courtesy of a fielding error by Chico's left fielder.
That would be the extent of CSUDH's chances, unfortunately, as the Wildcats went wild in the sixth, scoring 10 runs to put the game away in the eventual rout.
CSUDH managed eight hits in the contest while starter
Dylan Goodrich failed to get out of the first inning to take the loss.
The two teams play a doubleheader tomorrow, with first pitch of game one set for 12 noon.
