POMONA -- After taking an early 1-0 lead to open game one of this weekend's four-game series on the road, Cal State Dominguez Hills allowed nine unanswered runs en route to a 9-3 loss at Cal Poly Pomona tonight at Scolinos Field.
Dropping its second-straight contest, CSUDH falls to 12-14 overall and 4-9 in CCAA play.
Two one-out singles by
Alex Sepulveda and
Angel Cortez in the second inning set the stage for
Jarrett Segura, who lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Sepulveda for a 1-0 lead.
CSUDH's lead didn't last long, however, as the hosts answered with six runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead for good, adding a single run in the third and two more in the seventh to build a commanding 9-1 lead.
The Toros looked to mount a comeback in their last at-bat with Segura belting a 2-run shot, but CPP's relievers fanned the next two Toros and induced a fly out to center to give the Broncos the win.
CSUDH managed just three hits while committing two errors, leading to one unearned run.
Jordan Townley (pictured) took the loss, falling to 1-2 on the year.
The two teams play two tomorrow, with game one's first pitch set for 2 pm.
