CARSON -- Clinging to a one-run lead heading into the top of the sixth inning, Cal State Dominguez Hills pitching allowed six runs over the next two frames while its defense committed two errors, allowing visiting Cal State East Bay to take a come-from-behind 9-7 win and split the four-game series at two apiece.
Tristan Usher enjoyed a 3-for-5 effort with three Toros going deep as CSUDH slips to 12-13 overall and 4-8 in the CCAA.
Alex Sepulveda continued to swing a hot bat after driving home Usher in the bottom of the first to open the scoring.
After the Pios answered with a pair of runs in the second,
Jarrett Segura and
Quinn Johnson each belted solo home runs to put the Toros up 3-2 after three.
The two teams then exchanged single runs in each's half of the fifth inning until CSUEB took the lead for good with four unearned runs in the sixth courtesy of two CSUDH miscues, adding two in the seventh for good off of four Toro pitchers in the two innings.
The Toros looked to come back with two runs in the seventh to cut their deficit to 9-6, but the Pio pitchers shut the door on the CSUDH offense, allowing a solo home run by Buckley in the ninth to complete the scoring.
Johnson added two hits to his statline as part of eight total hits from the hosts.
CSUDH takes to the road to take on league-leader Cal Poly Pomona, with game one on Friday set for a 6 pm start.
