CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills scored a touchdown in its seventh-inning at-bat, but visiting Cal State Monterey Bay added three field goals in the ninth to run away with a 17-7 win over the Toros this afternoon on Toro Field to complete the four-game sweep.
Nigel Buckley went 2-for-4 in the loss in which the Toros, now 10-11 overall and 2-6 in CCAA play, managed just seven hits and committed two errors that led to nine unearned runs.
The visitors took an 8-0 lead that included three runs in their seventh-inning at-bat, only to have the Toros roar back with seven runs to make it a game.
In the frame, Buckley began the rally with a single to center before
Alex Sepulveda moved him to third with a double one batter later.
Angel Cortez drove in Buckley with a single to right before RBI hits by
Jarrett Segura and
Zac Ragland made it 8-3 and prompted an Otter pitching change.
After Segura scored on a wild pitch,
Deegan Grgas legged out an infield single to short to bring home Ragland before
Tristan Usher drew a walk, prompting another CSUMB change on the bump.
Another passed ball and wild pitch brought home Grgas before Buckley brought home the final run of the inning with his second hit of the frame.
That momentum proved short lived, however, as the Otters answered with nine runs in the ninth to run away with the win.
CSUDH stays home this week to host Cal State East Bay, with Friday's game one set for a 3 pm first pitch.
