Toros Take Two to Complete Four-Game Sweep of Concordia Irvine

IRVINE -- Cal State Dominguez Hills entered its final at-bat in today's twinbill opener at Concordia Irvine facing a one-run deficit, but turned the tables in dramatic fashion by scoring five runs in the 9th to take an 11-7 win over the Golden Eagles in game three of the four-game non-conference series.

Alex Sepulveda (pictured) and Nigel Buckley combined for seven hits, seven RBI and four runs scored in the comeback win before the Toros took a workman-like 7-1 decision over the hosts in the nightcap to secure the four-game sweep.

It was an offensive explosion to open the afternoon as the teams combined for nine runs in the 1st inning, with CUI taking a 7-4 lead into the of the 8th inning.  In that frame, CSUDH's bats again came alive as the duo of Sepulveda and Buckley accounted for two runs, narrowing the Toro deficit to just 7-6 heading into the final inning.

Facing their first loss of the series, CSUDH capitalized on a pair of CUI errors to knot the game at 7-7, setting the stage for Sepulveda, whose fourth hit of the game brought home two runs for a 9-7 lead, before Buckley's double brought home the final two runs in the comeback win.

Buckley finished 3-for-6 with 4RBI to complement Sepulveda's 4-for-4, 3 run, 3RBI outing.

Jake Estrada earned his first win of the year after tossing 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit.

CSUDH continued its offensive prowess in the nightcap by scoring two runs in the 1st inning, the last coming on a Tristan Usher RBI double.  Usher drove home two more runs two innings later as part of a 5-run 3rd inning, with Ben Saitz's 2RBI double accounting for the other big blow.

That was plenty for the Toro staff, with Julian Castro tossing 5.0 innings to pick up his second win of the year, the lone blemish coming on a CUI solo home run in the 4th to spoil the shutout.

Usher went 3-for-4 with 3RBI, with Angel Cortez and Sepulveda both boasting a pair of hits in the sweep.

The Toros will host a familiar foe in Cal State L.A. on Friday to start a non-conference series, with first pitch set for 1 pm on Toro Field.
