Box Score CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills senior
Quinn Johnson went deep while a quartet of Toro pitchers scattered six hits to visiting La Sierra University as CSUDH took a 6-3 win in a make-up game that was rescheduled from last week's rain.
The Toros improve to 8-5 while handing La Sierra just its second loss of the year (9-2).
Johnson began the scoring with a solo shot in the first inning, staking the Toros to a quick lead.
After La Sierra tied the score in their second inning at-bat, the hosts answered with a single run in the second courtesy of a
Ben Saitz RBI double, adding two runs in each of the next two innings to put the game away.
A Johnson RBI single and
Angel Cortez sacrifice fly brought the Toros to a 4-1 advantage in the third, with Saitz scoring on a throwing error and
Elijah Scott crossing the plate on the wild pitch in the fourth.
The Golden Eagles made it interesting with two runs in the seventh, but
Julian Castro shut the door on the visitors with a clean ninth to pick up the save, inducing two groundouts and fanning a batter.
Johnson went 2-for-5 with 2RBI, while
Alex Sepulveda,
Tristan Usher, Raoul Fabian, Jr, and Saitz picking up two hits apiece as part of CSUDH's 11-hit attack.
Toro starter
Zachary Lopez picked up the win after tossing a planned 3.0 innings of work, fanning four batters.
CSUDH will look to reschedule its remaining three contests against La Sierra, with its next scheduled contest to take place at Chico State on Friday, March 6.
