Box Score IRVINE -- Sophomore ace
Ashley Ogata tossed a complete-game gem as Cal State Dominguez Hills rolled to a 4-0 win over Western Oregon as day two of the Concordia Kickoff Classic commenced, before taking advantage of seven Menlo College errors in an 11-4 late game win.
Ogata was sharp from the start and never let the Wolves mount a serious threat in the opening game, going the distance while allowing four hits, striking out six, and issuing no walks. Western Oregon's best chance came in the third when a leadoff double put a runner in scoring position, but Ogata stranded two and kept the Toros in control.
Dominguez Hills did its damage in a decisive second inning that took advantage of two Western Oregon errors.
Savanna Kastigar reached to open the frame and later scored the game's first run.
Audrey Gallegos followed with a single, and the Toros loaded the bases before
Gaby Gandara drove in a run with an RBI single. The Toros added two more in the inning on RBI groundouts from
Makayla Bishop and
Ashley Goodale to make it 4–0.
Gandara finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and a stolen base, while Bishop added an RBI and went 1-for-3.
In the late game against the Oaks, the Toros scored six runs on just three hits, the big blows coming on a 2RBI triple down the right field line from
Mireya Rico, who scampered home on one of three errors in the frame.
Up 6-2 heading into the top of the 4th, CSUDH tacked on two more runs on a Rico RBI and
Alyssa Martinez groundout, which brought home
Olivia Oskorus from third base.
After two more Menlo errors gifted the Toros another run in the 5th inning, CSUDH put the game away in the 7th with two more runs on two hits and the final Oaks miscue, using Rico's 2RBI double to plate the final two scores.
Rico finished with a 3-for-5 performance with five RBI with
Makayla Bishop crossing home plate twice.
Brooke Umali tossed 3.0 innings of work, scattering two hits with one earned run against.Â
Nadia Juarez pitched the next 2.0 innings with a pair of strikeouts and one run scored to notch the win while
Audrey Gallegos and
Ashlie Nakano each seeing an inning of work.
The Toros conclude the Concordia Kickoff Classic tomorrow at 9 am, facing Jessup University.
