CARSON, Calif. — The Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team never trailed in a 72–56 win over Cal State LA in California Collegiate Athletic Association play Saturday afternoon at the Torodome to split the weekend between the 710 freeway series.
The Toros (14–5, 9–3 CCAA) opened with an 8–2 stretch and led 32–20 at halftime, holding the Golden Eagles to 32 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes. Cal State Dominguez Hills kept control after the break, pushing the margin to 20-plus midway through the second half and going up by as many as 24 at 70–46 with 3:35 to play.
Cal State Dominguez Hills shot 50 percent from the field (28-for-56) while limiting Cal State LA (6–12, 5–7 CCAA) to 18-for-55 overall and 6-for-28 from 3-point range. The Toros also finished with a 41–31 edge on the glass, 19–10 advantage in assists, and outscored the Golden Eagles 40–18 in the paint.
Za-Ontay Boothman led four Toros in double figures with 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting, including three 3-pointers. Jalen Brown added 11 points, four assists, and two steals. DaSean Stevens finished with 10 points and seven rebounds, while Josiah Sanders also scored 10 points. Luke Lin provided nine points off the bench on a perfect 3-for-3 night from the field, and John Solomon grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Khemanni Davis paced Cal State LA with 12 points and five assists. Deraje Agbaosi added 10 points and eight rebounds, while Connor Scales and Isaiah Fields each chipped in eight points.
Dominguez Hills stays home next week, kicking off the second half of the CCAA schedule hosting Chico State at 7:30 p.m. The Toros escaped with a 97-92 overtime win over the Wildcats in Acker Gym earlier this month.
