Box Score ARCATA -- Cal State Dominguez Hills suffered a cold shooting night from the floor as the Toros connected on just 32.8% of their shots, and that proved to be too big an obstacle to overcome as host Cal Poly Humboldt rolled to a decisive 91-55 win.
Bryanne Lopez-Wood and
A'moree Ferrel tied for team-high honors with 12 points each in the loss.
The hosts jumped on the Toros early, turning an early 4-3 deficit into a commanding 26-8 lead after one.
After a Lopez-Wood bucket brought CSUDH to within 26-10, the 'Jacks again ran wild, scoring the next eight points to stretch its lead to 34-10 with 4:44 left in the period.
The Toros, however, answered right back with eight-straight points of their own, courtesy of buckets by
Jayla Love,
Anela Thomas, and Ferrel, and a pair of free throws by N'Dya Parks that brought CSUDH to within 16 points at 34-18, a deficit they would take into locker room trailing 36-20.
Cal Poly Humboldt came out firing after intermission, scoring the first eight points to again take a 24-point cushion at the 8:29 mark, pushing it to 37 points at 64-27 just five minutes later, and to 39 at 70-31 to close the period, all but putting the game away.
The 'Jack lead grew to as large as 44 points in the final period before the eventual 91-55 final.
The Toros committed 24 turnovers to the 'Jacks' 12, resulting in a 25-7 advantage in points off turnovers for the hosts.
CSUDH will look to regroup on Sunday as they travel to Chico State for a 1 pm tip.
