CARSON, Calif. – Cal State Dominguez Hills earned its first CCAA win of the season in dramatic fashion, defeating Cal State Monterey Bay in a five-set thriller Saturday night inside the Torodome.
The Toros won by set scores of 25-20, 21-25, 25-13, 19-25 and 15-13. CSUDH tallied 60 kills, 54 assists, 82 digs and 14 blocks as a team, while holding the Otters to a .088 hitting percentage.
Bailey Fuches had a career night, powering the Toros with a career-high 21 kills on a .318 hitting percentage and adding a career-high four blocks. Ava Hurry followed with 18 kills and 15 digs, while Natalia Walden-Schulz chipped in seven kills and two blocks.
Nina Robles anchored the defense with a career-high 30 digs, while also adding five assists. Setter Jaiden Mojica paced the offense with 30 assists and 10 digs, while Giovannina De Sisto added 16 assists and five digs.
"Toro Volleyball showed up with heart, hustle, and that never-quit mindset. All credit to our girls, we don't fold under pressure — we fight," head coach Teddi Esko said.
