CARSON, Calif. – Cal State Dominguez Hills kicked off its home slate with a dramatic 4-3 walk-off win in Game 1 against Chaminade, as Andrea Tellez brought home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. In Game 2, the Toros' offense erupted for a 10-4 victory, highlighted by a four-run fourth inning and a two-run homer from Kaylee Hull. Strong pitching performances from Ashley Ogata and Lillianna Garcia helped secure the sweep as the Toros improved to 5-2 on the season.
Game 1
The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros opened its 2025 home slate in dramatic fashion, securing a 4-3 walk-off victory over Chaminade University on Monday afternoon at Toro Diamond. Torie Au's clutch RBI double in the bottom of the seventh set up the game-winning sequence, while Andrea Tellez delivered the decisive play to seal the win.
The Toros took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Gaby Gandara singled, stole second, and came around to score on Au's RBI groundout. Dominguez Hills added another run in the fifth as Alexis Aguado doubled and later scored on a sacrifice bunt from Jay Ross, extending the lead to 2-0.
Chaminade rallied in the sixth, plating three runs to take the lead, but the Toros refused to go away. In the bottom of the seventh, Gandara singled to lead off the inning, and Aguado reached on a fielder's choice. Au then ripped a double to right-center, bringing Aguado home to tie the game at 3-3. After a passed ball moved the runners into scoring position, Ross drew a walk, and Mia Ayala entered as a pinch runner. With the bases loaded, Tellez reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Ayala to cross the plate for the walk-off victory.
Ashley Ogata (1-1) earned the win in relief, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings after Lillianna Garcia went 5.1 innings, allowing two earned runs with three strikeouts.
The Toros' offense tallied nine hits, led by Aguado, who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Au contributed a 2-for-4 performance with two RBIs, while Gandara also recorded two hits. Sam Kwiatkowski and Mireya Rico each added a double in the win.
Game 2
The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros capped off its home-opening doubleheader with a commanding 10-4 victory over Chaminade University on Monday afternoon at Toro Diamond. A four-run fourth inning and a pair of late insurance runs powered the Toros to their fifth win of the season.
Dominguez Hills jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues. Alexis Aguado was hit by a pitch, stole second, and later scored on an error, while Jay Ross also crossed the plate on a defensive miscue. The Silverswords responded with runs in the third and fourth innings, tying the game at 2-2.
The Toros regained control in the bottom of the fourth with a four-run outburst. Alani Nguyen drove in Ross with a single before Kaylee Hull delivered the biggest hit of the inning, crushing a two-run homer to right field to put Dominguez Hills up 6-2.
Hull continued her stellar performance in the fifth, lining a two-run single up the middle to push the lead to 8-2. Chaminade plated two runs in the sixth, but the Toros quickly answered in the bottom half. Ross ripped an RBI double, and another run scored on a wild pitch to seal the victory.
Hull led the offense, going 2-for-4 with four RBIs, while Ross went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI double. Aguado reached base three times, stole a base, and scored twice. Nguyen also contributed an RBI and a run scored.
In the circle, Lillianna Garcia (4-0) picked up the win in relief, tossing two scoreless innings while allowing just one hit. Ashley Ogata started the game, striking out two in three innings of work, while Ally Fuentes closed out the final 1.1 innings without allowing a hit.
Toros will return to action Tuesday, February 4th in another double-header at the Toro Diamond against Western Oregon at 12 pm & 2pm.
