Box Score SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The No. 19 Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team showcased its defensive strength and rebounding dominance in a 62-45 road win over San Francisco State on Thursday night. With the victory, the Toros improve to 22-5 overall and 19-2 in CCAA play, clinching at least a share of the CCAA regular-season title. This marks the first time in program history that Dominguez Hills has won back-to-back CCAA regular-season championships, having shared last year's title with Cal State San Bernardino.
The Toros set the tone early, smothering the Gators defensively and holding them to just 14 first-half points. Dominguez Hills used its elite rebounding and fast-paced offense to build a 34-14 halftime lead, fueled by strong performances from Alex Garcia and Jordan Hilstock. The defensive pressure continued in the second half, as the Toros forced contested shots and controlled the boards to secure their 22nd win of the season.
Garcia led the scoring effort with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, while also grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out three assists. Hilstock contributed eight points, five rebounds, and three assists, while Adam Afifi added six points and three rebounds. Jeremy Dent-Smith controlled the glass with a game-high 10 rebounds, also chipping in five points. Off the bench, JT Tan provided a key spark with 10 points and seven rebounds, and Jayden Winfrey added six points.
The Toros' defense was on full display, limiting the Gators to just 27.3% shooting from the field and 14.8% from three-point range. Dominguez Hills, ranked No. 3 in the CCAA in scoring defense, held its opponent below 50 points for the fifth time this season. The Toros also flexed their dominance on the glass, winning the rebounding battle 46-24 and securing their spot as the top rebounding team in the conference with 37.6 boards per game.
With the win, Dominguez Hills remains No. 3 in the CCAA in scoring offense (77.2 PPG) and No. 2 in assists (14.6 APG), further establishing itself as one of the most well-rounded teams in the conference.
The Toros will conclude their regular-season schedule on Saturday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m. against Cal State East Bay before shifting their focus to the CCAA Tournament, hosted by Cal State San Marcos from March 6-8. A win would secure the outright CCAA regular-season championship for Dominguez Hills.
