Box Score CARSON, Calif. – The No. 2 Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros continued its dominant season with a 71-51 win over Cal Poly Humboldt on Thursday night at the Torodome. With the victory, the Toros remain the only undefeated team in NCAA Division II, improving to 27-0 overall and 19-0 in CCAA play. The win also clinched at least a share of the CCAA regular-season title, and Dominguez Hills can claim the championship outright with a victory in their next game.
The Toros wasted no time setting the tone, using their top-ranked defense to hold Humboldt to just 12 first-quarter points while taking a 16-12 lead. Nala Williams got off to a hot start, scoring eight early points, including two three-pointers.
Dominguez Hills extended its advantage in the second quarter, outscoring the Lumberjacks 18-15. Freshman Cristina Jones made a big impact on both ends, grabbing five rebounds and collecting two steals in the period. Williams continued to lead the offense, helping the Toros take a 34-27 lead into the break.
The third quarter proved to be the difference-maker, as the Toros outscored Humboldt 21-13 behind stifling defense and strong rebounding. Jones was a key factor, finishing with a season-high nine rebounds and four steals while contributing eight points. Williams remained locked in, adding another seven points in the quarter, while Asia Jordan controlled the paint with 12 points and eight rebounds overall.
Dominguez Hills closed out the game with a 16-11 fourth quarter, holding Humboldt to just 26.3% shooting in the final period. Williams finished with a game-high 25 points, shooting 9-of-16 from the field and 5-of-10 from beyond the arc, while also adding eight rebounds and four steals. Jordan recorded 12 points and eight rebounds,while Jones filled the stat sheet with eight points, a season-high nine rebounds, and another season-high four steals. Kya Pearson contributed four points, three assists, and two steals, and Kylee Edgar provided seven points off the bench.
The Toros dominated the rebounding battle 50-38 and forced 26 turnovers, leading to 17 points. Their defensive presence limited Humboldt to just 40.8% shooting from the field and 23.5% from three-point range.
Toros will conclude their home games on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 1:00 p.m. against Chico State for Senior Day as the Toros honor their graduating players.Â
