SEASIDE, Calif. – The No. 17 Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros continued its impressive run with a commanding 82-65 road win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday afternoon at the Otter Sports Center. With the victory, the Toros improve to 20-4 overall and 17-1 in CCAA play as the regular season nears its final stretch. With the win, the Toros remain at the top of the CCAA standings, holding the best scoring margin in the conference.
The Toros set the tone early, outscoring the Otters 43-30 in the first half behind efficient shooting and stifling defense. Dominguez Hills shot 55.6 percent from the field in the opening period and capitalized on its defensive pressure, forcing multiple turnovers to build a double-digit lead heading into the break.
In the second half, the Toros maintained their control, holding Monterey Bay to just 38.1 percent shooting while continuing to find offensive success. A balanced attack, highlighted by four players scoring in double figures, allowed Dominguez Hills to keep a comfortable lead and secure its 17th conference win of the season.
DJ Guest led the scoring effort with 15 points off the bench, shooting 5-of-9 from the field. Alex Garcia followed with 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting while adding five rebounds and three assists. Jeremy Dent-Smith, one of the CCAA's top three scorers at 18.4 points per game, finished with 11 points and three assists. Adam Afifi contributed 10 points and five rebounds, rounding out the Toros' double-digit scorers. JT Tan added eight points, while David Cheatom and Isaiah Bernard-Lopez each chipped in seven, also adding in a season high six rebounds from the freshman.
Cal State Dominguez Hills returns home for its final two regular-season games at the Torodome, beginning with Cal Poly Humboldt on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m. The Toros will then celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 22, when they take on Chico State.
