GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros dropped a closely contested four-set match to MSU Moorhead on Friday at the Maverick Fall Classic, falling 3-1.
 
In the 13-25, 25-23, 24-26, 22-25 four set match, the Toros (2-4) struggled offensively, hitting just .109 for the match with 47 kills and 30 errors.
 
Maria Bejines-Garibay led the Toros recording a team-high 12 kills and 13 digs. 
Ava Hurry added 7 kills, 6 digs, and 1 service ace, while 
Fallon Freeman contributed 6 kills. Setter 
Maya Barron guided the offense with 26 assists.
 
Defensively, the Toros were led by Bejines-Garibay's 13 digs, with 
Ashlyn Riddle adding 9 digs and a service ace. At the net, 
Camryn Perdue and 
Aleya Starnes each tallied 3 blocks, while 
Kayly Pau contributed 2 blocks.
"It was a tough loss for the Toros tonight," said coach Teddi Eako. "We shined at moments,  but we are still working on finding consistency in all aspects of our game."
 
MSU Moorhead took control early, hitting .333 with 15 kills in the first set to secure a 25-13 win. The Toros bounced back in the second set, hitting .162 with 12 kills to edge MSU Moorhead 25-23 and even the match.
 
The third set was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams trading points. The Toros fought hard but fell short in a 26-24 loss. In the fourth set, MSU Moorhead sealed the match with a 25-22 victory, hitting .212 and holding off a late Toro rally.
 
Cal State Dominguez Hills will look to bounce back tomorrow, Friday, September 13
th at 1:30pm as they continue play in the Maverick Fall Classic.
