Toros Defeat Adams State in Four Sets at Maverick Fall Classic

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros secured a hard-fought victory over Adams State, winning 3-1 to notch their first win at the Maverick Fall Classic.
 
The Toros (3-3) started strong in the first set, hitting .235 with 14 kills to take a 25-21 win. Adams State (2-5) responded in the second set, capitalizing on Toro errors to secure a 25-22 victory and even the match.
 
The third set was closely contested, but the Toros held off Adams State with 18 kills to edge out a 25-23 win. In the final set, the Toros hit .231 with 15 kills, closing out the match with a 25-21 victory.
 
The Toros finished the match with 58 kills and a .185 hitting percentage, while Adams State recorded 46 kills and hit .151.

"It was a great win by the Toros that was a solid team effort," said coach Teddi Esko. "Good execution in the serve and pass game."  
 
The Toros were led by Ava Hurry, who tallied a match-high 16 kills along with 11 digs. Camryn Perdue added 12 kills, while Kayly Pau contributed 7 kills and 4 blocks. Maya Barron orchestrated the offense with 30 assists and chipped in defensively with 11 digs.
 
Ashlyn Riddle made an impact from the service line with 2 aces and also contributed 5 assists. Defensively, Bailey Fuches led the back row with 12 digs while also dishing out 18 assists. The Toros also received contributions from Aleya Starnes, who added 4 blocks to help anchor the defense.
 
The Toros will look to build on this momentum as they continue their Maverick Fall Classic campaign tomorrow Saturday, September 13th against Angelo State University at 7:30am before taking Colorado Mesa at 5:30pm.
