CARSON, Calif. – The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) announced June 6
th, that CSUDH AVP/Director of Athletics, Eric McCurdy, will serve as the chair of the CCAA Executive Council, while the university President Dr. Thomas Parham will take on the role of Chair of the CCAA Board of Presidents.
"We are excited to introduce CSUDH President Dr. Thomas A. Parham as the chair of the CCAA Board of Presidents and CSUDH Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Eric McCurdy as president of the CCAA Executive Council for the 2024-25 academic year," said CCAA commissioner Allen Hardison. "Collectively, we have a big vision for the CCAA and I very much look forward to working with these two to help move our great conference forward."
The Board of Presidents implemented a new governance system in the 2019-20 academic year featuring a one-year term and a distinct chair rotation, separate from the Executive Council Chair rotation. Since this change, the Chair of the Executive Council and the Chair of the Board of Presidents have typically been from different institutions. The 2024-25 academic year marks a rare occasion where both chairs are from the same institution.
"I am deeply honored and excited to begin the critical work of championing student athletics with the CCAA President's Council," said President Parham. "Having two Toro executives within CCAA leadership not only underscores our university's commitment to excellence, but also elevates CSUDH's profile within the state."
The last time the CSUDH Athletic Director held the chair of the Executive Council was in the 2012-13 academic year. Typically, chairs serve once every 12 or 13 years, depending on the number of member institutions, which has fluctuated between 12 and 13 since 2007. Mr. McCurdy will also serve as the men's basketball liaison, working alongside the conference office to oversee the coaches group, enhance the championship experience, and act as a conduit between the basketball student-athletes and coaches to executive council.
"I am excited about helping facilitate meetings and discissions this upcoming school year with the CCAA Executive Council," said Mr. McCurdy. "Also, the opportunity to work closer with Dr. Parham and Commissioner Hardison in helping support our CCAA leadership is an exciting opportunity and something I am looking forward to."
Starting July 1
st, in their new roles, both Mr. McCurdy and Dr. Parham will collaborate with the Commissioner to manage meetings, set schedules, develop agendas, and undertake additional duties assigned by the Commissioner to help advance the mission of the CCAA, which is among the most successful NCAA Div. II athletic conferences in the nation.
"As an avid supporter of sports, I firmly believe in the power of athletics to enrich students' academic experiences and prime them for success in all aspects of life," President Parham said. "Together, we will continue to uphold the values of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance that are integral to both athletic and academic achievements."
