Toros Defeat Sonoma State To Advance After Setback Against Cal State San Marcos

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros fell to Cal State San Marcos and went on to defeat Sonoma State to advance in the CCAA Championship Tournament.

Game One
In the opening game against Cal State San Marcos Cougars, the Toros found themselves on the losing end despite a late push in the seventh inning. The Cougars set the tone early, establishing a lead. Although the Toros rallied in the final inning with RBI singles from Kaylee Hull and Mireya Rico, it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit, resulting in a final score of 2-5.

Game Two
In a thrilling second game against the Sonoma State Seawolves, the Toros emerged victorious in a closely contested matchup. After falling behind early due to a three-run homer by the Seawolves, the Toros showcased their resilience, gradually chipping away at the lead. Key hits from Mariah Ramirez and Rico in the later innings, coupled with smart baserunning, allowed the Toros to tie the game in the seventh. Ultimately, it was a clutch RBI single by Rico that secured the win for the Toros, with a final score of 4-3.

The Toros will continue their run in the CCAA Championship Tournament tomorrow, May 3rd as they play at 2:30pm against the losing team of the first game tomorrow.
