NAMPA, Idaho – In a highly anticipated clash against the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros delivered a commanding performance, clinching a decisive 3-1 victory in the NCAA West Regional showdown to advance to the NCAA West Super Regional.
The Toros wasted no time asserting their dominance, as
Mariah Ramirez electrified the crowd with a powerful home run to left center in the opening inning to tie the single season home run record at 20 home runs.
Building on their early lead, the Toros continued to apply pressure on the opposing defense.
Mireya Rico's well-executed single to left field, which was followed by a precise advance to second, further extended the Toros' advantage and provided a crucial RBI, with
Kaylee Hull crossing the plate. However, the Nighthawks retaliated swiftly narrowing the deficit by putting a run on the board in the same inning.
Undeterred by the opposition's resilience, the Toros remained steadfast in their pursuit of victory. In a pivotal moment during the 5th inning, Ramirez once again made contact, delivering a clutch double to right center, allowing
Jay Ross to score and bolstering the Toros' lead and ultimate 3-1 victory.
Ramirez, with a record of 25-7, pitched her third complete game for the Toros in the NCAA West Region. She allowed only one earned run on seven hits across seven innings of play. Ramirez issued one walk while recording six strikeouts. She demonstrated her consistency and control throughout the game, facing 29 batters and throwing 108 pitches. Her performance was instrumental in advancing the Toros to the NCAA West Super Regional.
