SAN MARCOS, Calif. – In a commanding display of offensive, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros secured a convincing 6-1 victory over the San Francisco State Gators to advance to the double elimination rounds of the CCAA Championship Tournament.
The Toros wasted no time asserting their dominance, as
Mariah Ramirez's two-run homer in the first inning set the tone for the game. In the second inning, Ramirez's presence on the bases led to another run when an error by the first baseman allowed
Alexis Aguado to score.
Ramirez continued her stellar performance in the fourth inning with another two-run homer, extending the Toros' lead to 5-0. Although the Gators managed to get on the scoreboard with a run in the sixth inning, the Toros quickly responded in the bottom of the frame.
Kaylee Hull's RBI single brought in Hernandez, further solidifying the Toros' lead.
In her pitching role, Ramirez demonstrated poise and precision, tallying an impressive four strikeouts over seven innings. On seven innings, she only allowed three hits and a single earned run.
The Toros take on No. 2 seed Cal State San Marcos tomorrow at 1pm. Depending on the outcome of tomorrow's game, the Toros may advance to Friday on a win, or compete in a second game with a loss.
