SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros secured two wins on the road in the first doubleheader against the San Francisco State Gators.
Game One
In the opening game, the Toros secured a narrow 2-1 victory over San Francisco State. The offense came alive in the fourth inning when
Mireya Rico doubled down the left-field line, driving in
Mariah Ramirez and giving the Toros a 1-0 lead. Later in the same inning,
Alex Davis reached base on a fielder's choice, allowing
Kaylee Hull to score, extending the Toros' lead to 2-0. Despite a late run from San Francisco State in the fifth inning, the Toros' pitching and defense held firm, securing the win in a tightly contested matchup.
Mariah Ramirez led the Toros to victory with a stellar outing on the mound. In the full seven innings of play, Ramirez allowed just one earned run on six hits while striking out seven batters.
Game Two
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Toros came out swinging, scoring early and often to clinch a 6-1 victory over San Francisco State.
Jay Ross set the tone in the first inning with a two-run homer down the right-field line, quickly giving the Toros a 2-0 lead.
Mariah Ramirez followed suit with a solo home run to right-center field, furthering the Toros' advantage to 3-0. The offensive onslaught continued in the second inning as
Alexis Aguado's triple down the right-field line brought Julissa Gomez home, increasing the Toros' lead to 4-0. Although San Francisco State managed to score a run in the fifth inning, the Toros responded in the seventh with another burst of offense, highlighted by
Jay Ross' double to left field, driving in two more runs and sealing the victory.
Ashley Wies delivered a standout performance on the mound for the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros, earning the win with a stellar outing. Across seven innings of play, Wies allowed just one earned run on six hits, showcasing her effectiveness in limiting the opposing team's offense. Notably, Wies displayed excellent control throughout the game, issuing zero walks while generating outs with her precise pitching.
The Toros close their series against the Gators with a doubleheader tomorrow, Saturday, April 6th with first pitch set for 11am.
