SEASIDE, Calif. – With the CCAA Championship coming up, the Toros faced the Monterey Bay
Otters. The Toros split the day as they fell in game one yet they came back and put on a show
for game two. With a record of 20-12, the Toros have guaranteed themselves a spot in the
Championships from May 1st through the 4th.
Game One
In the first game of the day the Toros struggled to stop the Otters offensive strategies. A few
Toros to highlight are
Jay Ross,
Alexis Aguado, and Samantha Kwiatowski with two putouts each
and
Kaylee Hull with a total of six putouts in the match. The Toros ultimately fell to the Otters in game one, 0-8.
Game Two
With the hard loss in game one, the Toros came out stronger than ever. The Toros scored every
inning while holding the Otters to one run. In the first inning the Toros were immediately racking
up the stats.
Mariah Ramirez homered to center field bringing in
Jay Ross giving her 2 early
RBIs. Then came Kianna Abellara up to bat. She hit a homer to left field with 2 RBIs bringing in
Kaylee Hull. At the bottom of the inning the Otters were able to get one run but Pitcher Ashley
Wise abruptly ended the Otters momentum with a strikeout to close the first inning. The Toros
led 4-1 going into the second but they did not stop there. With an outstanding homer already,
Mariah Ramirez hit another one up the left field with 2 bases loaded, bringing in
Alexis Aguado
and
Gaby Gandara. This gave Ramirez 5 RBIs just in the first two innings. The Toros continued
to put pressure on the Otters defense as
Kaylee Hull homered to left center giving the Toros a
incredible 8-1 lead. The Toros were unstoppable in the second inning with the fifth homer of the
day by
Maiya Lopez to right center field and bringing in
Mireya Rico. The amazing performance
offensively and defensively gave the Toros a 10-1 lead. Both teams remained scoreless for the
rest of the match giving the Toros the strong victory.
