CARSON, Calif. – In a challenging doubleheader, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros faced tough competition from the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes, resulting in two consecutive losses for the Toros.
With this series loss, the Toros overall record is now 13-7 and 10-4 in the CCAA conference 10-0, and remain in first place.
GAME ONE
In a tightly contested softball matchup, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros faced off against Cal State San Bernardino in a game filled with twists and turns, ultimately resulting in a narrow defeat for the Toros.
The game began with both teams showcasing their offensive prowess, but it was the Toros who struck first in the third inning.
Jay Ross delivered a clutch single to right-center field, bringing in
Kaylee Hull and giving the Toros an early 1-0 lead.
However, Cal State San Bernardino quickly responded in the fourth inning, as they drove in two runs, swinging the momentum and score into their favor, 3-1.
Undeterred, the Toros fought back in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Alani Nguyen delivered a timely single through the right side, bringing in
Alexis Aguado and narrowing the deficit to 3-2.
Gaby Gandara then stepped up with a crucial single to shortstop, bringing in Hull and leveling the score at 3-3.
With the game tied in the seventh inning, Cal State San Bernardino delivered the decisive blow, giving them the 4-3 lead and win.
GAME TWO
In an intense softball matchup, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros found themselves locked in a battle against Cal State San Bernardino that extended into extra innings, ultimately resulting in a narrow defeat for the Toros.
The game began with Cal State San Bernardino taking an early lead in the first inning with a two-run homer to center field, putting the Toros in an early 2-0 deficit. However, the Toros quickly responded in the bottom of the inning, with
Mireya Rico delivering a clutch single down the right-field line, bringing in
Alexis Aguado and narrowing the gap to 2-1.
The Toros continued their offensive push in the second inning, with Aguado's single to first base bringing in
Gaby Gandara and tying the game at 2-2. Ross then added to the Toros' lead with a single up the middle, bringing in Gandara and giving the Toros a 3-2 advantage.
Cal State San Bernardino fought back in the third inning, reclaiming the lead with a double, driving in two runs and putting them ahead 4-3. Undeterred, the Toros leveled the score once again in the fourth inning, with Gandara's single to right center bringing in
Julisa Gomez and tying the game at 4-4.
The game remained deadlocked until the 11th inning when Cal State San Bernardino delivered the decisive blow, as they launched a homer to right center, giving them a 5-4 lead and the win.
The Toros are on the road next week as they take on the Cal State Eastbay Pioneers in Hayward on Friday, March 15
th with first pitch set at 1pm.
