Toros Edged Out by Northwest Nazarene To Close Day 0-2

CARSON – In nail-biting matchups, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros fall to Dominican University and Northwest Nazarene to close the day, 0-2.

The scoring commenced in the first inning when Dominican's singled to bring a Penguin home to notch the first run of the game. Not to be outdone, the Toros quickly responded with Jay Ross tripling to left field, driving Alexis Aguado in to level the score at 1-1.

Dominican took the lead in the third inning, thanks to a significant three-run homer to right center to extend their lead to 4-1.

The Toros staged a spirited comeback in the fifth inning. Ross once again proved crucial, doubling to left field to bring Aguado home once more. The rally continued with Kaylee Hull doubling down the left-field line, for two RBIs to tie the game at 4-4.

However, Dominican edged ahead in the sixth inning with a single up the middle, allowing a run. This run proved decisive, as Dominican held onto their lead despite the Toros' efforts to mount another comeback in the final innings.

The Toros return to the plate today Saturday, February 3rd as they take on Northwest Nazarene with first pitch set for 3pm.

GAME TWO

In a tightly contested matchup that showcased strong pitching and defense, Cal State Dominguez Hills fell just short against Northwest Nazarene, with a final score of 2-1.

The Toros' offense saw contributions from several players. Kaylee Hull scored the team's only run after reaching base with one of her team's four hits.

Julissa Gomez led the Toros with a nearly perfect day at the plate, going 2-for-3 and proving to be a tough out for Northwest Nazarene's pitchers.

Maiya Lopez contributed the lone RBI for Cal State Dominguez Hills with a sacrifice fly, demonstrating situational awareness and the ability to bring in runs even when hits were scarce. Her RBI tied the game temporarily, highlighting a key moment for the Toros as they sought to overcome Northwest Nazarene's early lead.

Alexis Aguado reached base twice, including a hit and a walk.

The Toros return to the Toro Diamond Tuesday, February 6th for a double header against Western Oregon University with first pitch set for 12:00pm.
