With 80-67 Win Over Lumberjacks, Toros Are CCAA Regular Season Champions

ARCATA, Calif. – The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros secured a decisive 80-67 victory against the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks to secure a share of the CCAA Conference Championship.
 
With this win, the Toros are now the CCAA Regular Season Champions for the fourth time in school history with an overall record of 22-5 and CCAA record of 17-4. With one game left in the regular season the Toros have the opportunity to win the title outright or they can possibly be crowned co-championships with Cal State San Bernardino depending on the results of the final game. 
 
The Toros showcased their offensive determination by opening the game strong, leading 41-21 at halftime. Despite a spirited comeback attempt by Cal Poly Humboldt in the second half, outscoring the Toros 46-39, the Toros held firm to secure the win.
 
Jakob Alamudun led the Toros with an exceptional performance, scoring 21 points on a highly efficient 6-8 shooting from the field, including 1-2 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 8-8 from the free-throw line. His rebounding effort added five boards to his stat line, alongside one assist, showcasing his all-around game.
 
Jeremy Dent-Smith was another key contributor, providing the Toros with 17 points. His shooting split of 8-15 from the field, was complemented by a perfect 1-1 at the free-throw line. Dent-Smith also collected two rebounds, dished out two assists, and had three steals, further proving his value on the court.
 
Alex Garcia and DJ Guest both added nine points each, with Garcia hitting 2-4 from the field, including 1-3 from the three-point line, and perfect from the free-throw line at 4-4. Guest was efficient with his shots, going 4-6 from the field, including 1-1 from three-point range. Both players showed their versatility, contributing to the team's rebounding efforts and defensive plays.
 
Andre Ball also chipped in with nine points, shooting an efficient 4-6 from the field and adding three rebounds to his tally. His contributions were crucial in maintaining the team's momentum throughout the game.
 
The Toros close out the 2023-24 regular season Thursday, February 29th in Los Angeles as they take on the Cal State LA Golden Eagles at 7:30pm.
