CARSON – The California State Dominguez Hills Toros softball team demonstrated exceptional skill and determination in a compelling doubleheader against Chico State, capturing victories in both games through a combination of strategic hitting, resilient pitching, and timely home runs.
Game One
The first game of the series saw the Toros overcome an early deficit to secure a 4-1 victory. Chico State initially took the lead in the first inning, but the Toros quickly regrouped. The turning point came in the fourth inning when
Kianna Abellera's sacrifice fly and
Alani Nguyen's two-run homer shifted the momentum in favor of the Toros, tying the game and then propelling them into the lead.
Mariah Ramirez solo home run in the sixth inning further extended the lead, cementing the Toros' triumphant comeback and showcasing their ability to capitalize on critical moments.
Game Two
The second game proved to be a nail-biter, characterized by a pitcher's duel and clutch hitting from both sides. Chico State struck first with a solo home run, but the Toros responded immediately, with
Kianna Abellera driving in
Jay Ross to tie the game. The scoreboard remained unchanged until the seventh inning when
Julisa Gomez delivered a timely single to center field, bringing in
Samantha Kwiatkowski for the go-ahead run. This critical hit provided the Toros with a narrow 2-1 lead, which they defended staunchly through the final innings to clinch the victory.
