Toros Defeat Stanislaus State 67-56 to Stay Perfect in CCAA Play

CARSON, Calif. — The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros remained undefeated in CCAA play, securing a 67-56 win over Stanislaus State on Saturday afternoon at the Torodome. The victory moves the Toros to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in conference action.

The first half was a defensive battle, with both teams struggling to find rhythm offensively. The Toros shot 33.3% from the field but managed to take a 27-25 lead into halftime, thanks to eight points from Jeremy Dent-Smith, including a pair of three-pointers. Alex Garcia chipped in six points and three rebounds in the opening frame, while the Toros' defense held the Warriors to 38.5% shooting and forced nine turnovers.

The second half saw Dominguez Hills pick up the pace, outscoring Stanislaus State 40-31. The Toros used a 10-3 run midway through the period to extend their lead, highlighted by Dent-Smith's third three-pointer and a fast-break layup from Jordan Hilstock. Garcia led the way with eight second-half points, including a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, while JT Tan added seven points and a key tip-in during the closing minutes to seal the victory.

The Toros' defensive pressure was a key factor, forcing 17 turnovers and limiting Stanislaus State to just 33.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Dominguez Hills also capitalized on 17 free-throw attempts in the second half, converting 10 to maintain their lead down the stretch.

Dent-Smith finished with a team-high 18 points, shooting 3-for-7 from beyond the arc and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line, while also adding three assists and a steal. Garcia contributed 14 points, four rebounds, and three steals, while Hilstock added nine points and three boards. JT Tan and David Cheatom each chipped in 11 points, with Tan also grabbing three rebounds and adding an assist.

The Toros will return to the Torodome on Saturday, December 14, at 7:30 p.m. to take on Nobel University in a exhibition non-conference matchup.
