CARSON, Calif. — The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros secured a strong 77-68 win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday night in their CCAA home opener at the Torodome. The victory improves the Toros to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
The Toros started the game with a balanced attack, outscoring the Otters 38-34 in the first half. Jeremy Dent-Smith led the charge with 13 of his team-high 21 points in the opening frame. Alex Garcia provided a spark from beyond the arc, hitting two three-pointers to finish the half with eight points. Dominguez Hills shot 43.8% from the field in the first 20 minutes and went a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line to maintain a slim lead at the break.
In the second half, the Toros continued to pressure the Otters, using a combination of strong defense and timely free-throw shooting to maintain control. Dominguez Hills capitalized on 18 trips to the charity stripe in the second half, sinking 14 free throws to seal the victory. Dent-Smith added eight more points in the period, while Adam Afifi contributed six key free throws and finished with a double-double, recording 14 points and eight rebounds. DJ Guest anchored the paint with seven rebounds and nine points, while Garcia chipped in 11 points and two steals.

Adam Afifi was a force on both ends of the floor, recording 14 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks. The Toros will return to action this Saturday, December 7th, as they host Stanislaus State at 3:00 p.m. in the Torodome.
