Toros Stay Unbeaten in CCAA Play with a 75-67 Victory Over Cal State LA

CARSON, Calif. — The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros remained undefeated in CCAA play, earning a gritty 75-67 win over Cal State LA on Saturday afternoon at the Torodome. The victory improves the Toros to 8-3 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

The first half was closely contested, with both teams trading the lead multiple times. The Toros shot 35.5% from the field, including 4-for-18 from beyond the arc, but managed to take a narrow 28-27 lead into halftime. Jeremy Dent-Smith paced Dominguez Hills in the opening half, scoring 11 points, while Alex Garcia added seven points, including a fast-break layup to spark the offense. The Toros' defense held the Golden Eagles to 45.8% shooting and forced nine turnovers to keep the game close.

Dominguez Hills turned up the intensity in the second half, shooting an impressive 57.1% from the field and capitalizing on free-throw opportunities. Dent-Smith continued his stellar play, scoring 14 of his game-high 25 points in the half and sinking six crucial free throws to seal the win. Garcia was equally effective, adding nine points and finishing with 16 for the game, while Adam Afifi controlled the paint with 12 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. The Toros' defense forced 15 total turnovers, translating into 15 points, and limited Cal State LA to just 28% shooting from three-point range.

Dent-Smith led all scorers with 25 points, going 8-for-17 from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line, while also contributing four assists and a steal. Garcia finished with 16 points, four rebounds, and two steals. Afifi posted a double-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks. Off the bench, David Cheatom added nine points and five rebounds, while JT Tan contributed eight points and eight rebounds.

The Toros will return to action on the road on Thursday, January 2, as they face Cal Poly Pomona in a CCAA matchup at 7:30 p.m.
