POMONA, Calif. – Cal State Dominguez Hills put up a strong effort against nationally ranked #23 Cal Poly Pomona but ultimately fell in straight sets (25-16, 25-16, 25-16) in CCAA action Saturday afternoon at Kellogg Arena.
The Toros came out determined in the first set, maintaining competitive rallies and hitting .108, with junior
Kayly Pau leading the charge. Pau finished with 8 kills on 19 attempts and a .211 hitting percentage, giving the Toros steady offense. Although the Broncos surged late to take the set 25-16, Cal State Dominguez Hills displayed grit that carried over into the second set.
In the second set, the Toros kept pace early, with
Ava Hurry and
Camryn Perdue each contributing timely kills. Perdue hit an efficient .231 for the match, while Hurry notched 4 kills and added 7 digs to her stat line. The defense, led by libero
Nina Robles with 11 digs, made several key stops, but Cal Poly Pomona edged ahead with a strong run to secure another 25-16 set win.
The third set saw Cal State Dominguez Hills rally back after a slow start, battling through tight rallies to keep the score within reach.
Bailey Fuches and
Maya Barron kept the offense moving with 7 and 9 assists, respectively, while combining for 13 digs. The Toros fought until the final point, but the Broncos held firm to close the set 25-16 and take the match.
The Toros now look to regroup and bring their competitive spirit home as they prepare for a pair of CCAA matchups at the Torodome, beginning Friday, November 15, at 5 p.m. against Sonoma State University.
