CARSON – In a closely contested game that extended into overtime, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros narrowly missed victory against the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes, with the final score standing at 87-81.
The game started with the Toros taking an early lead, outscoring CSUSB 18-14 in the first quarter. However, the momentum shifted slightly in the second quarter, with CSUSB edging out the Toros 18-13, bringing the halftime score to a tight 32-31.
Both teams came back with renewed vigor in the third quarter, each scoring 20 points. The evenly matched performance continued into the fourth quarter, with the Toros slightly outpacing CSUSB 22-21. This nail-biting exchange led the game into overtime, tied at 73-73.
In overtime, CSUSB outscored the Toros 14-8. Despite a hard-fought game, the Toros ultimately fell short by six points.
Asia Jordan emerged as the leading scorer for the Toros, pouring in 23 points in 36 minutes. Jordan's efficiency was on display as she shot 9-16 from the field and was perfect from the free-throw line, hitting 5-5. She also had a significant impact on the boards, grabbing 11 rebounds, and contributed defensively with two steals.
Cristina Oliva made significant contributions as well as she added 17 points, fueled by her 4-8 shooting from three-point range, along with four rebounds and four assists.
Also playing a vital role for the Toros was
Amaya Snowden as she scored 14 points over 38 minutes. Snowden excelled at the free-throw line, making all eight of her attempts. She added eight rebounds, four assists, and one steal to her stat line.
Malia Goldsmith contributed eight points in 35 minutes, showcasing efficiency by shooting 3-5 from the field and 2-2 from the three-point line. She also collected seven rebounds and dished out four assists.
Joe'l Benoit scored eight points, grabbed three rebounds, and has four assists on the game.
