Toros Triumph in Thrilling Overtime Battle Against Pioneers, 87-84

HAYWARD, Calif. — In a gripping contest that extended into overtime, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros edged out Cal State East Bay with a final score of 87-84.
 
The Toros went undefeated this week and now stand with a CCAA record of 7-2 and overall record of 12-3. After the closing of CCAA competition today, the Toros are now in a three-way tie for first place in the conference standings. The Pioneers record now stands at 10-5; 6-3 CCAA and are ranked fifth in the conference.
 
The game commenced with high intensity, as both teams battled closely in the first half. The Toros held a narrow lead, finishing the half with a score of 34-32. This set the stage for an equally competitive second half, where Cal State East Bay slightly outscored the Toros 41-39, tying the game and pushing it into overtime.
 
In the crucial overtime period, DJ Guest found his rhythm scoring eight pivotal points as the Toros outscored CSUEB, 14-11 to win their second game in overtime this week.
 
Guest emerged as the top scorer for the Toros, contributing an impressive 20 points in 31 minutes. Guest was remarkably efficient, shooting 7-8 from the field and 1-1 from the three-point line. He also made five of his eight free throw attempts and added four rebounds and a steal.
 
Jakob Alamudun and Jeremy Dent-Smith each added 19 points. Alamudun, playing 38 minutes, shot 7-14 from the field and 1-2 from beyond the arc, also perfect from the free-throw line with 4-4 shooting. He contributed three rebounds, five assists, and a block. Dent-Smith, in 35 minutes, shot 7-17 overall and 2-3 from the three-point line, adding 3-5 from the free-throw line, four rebounds, and two assists.
 
Andre Ball scored 10 points over 36 minutes. He shot 4-8 from the field and 2-4 from three-point range. Ball was also a strong presence on the boards, pulling down eight rebounds, and he contributed two assists and a steal.
 
The Toros make their return to the Torodome on Thursday, January 18th as they take on Cal Poly Humboldt at 7:30pm.
