ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — In a tension-filled volleyball showdown, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros outlasted the Westmont College Warriors in a nail-biting five-set match , displaying both skill and resilience.
 
The Toros took the first set confidently with a score of 25-19, but the Warriors bounced back with determination, claiming the next two sets 25-20 and 25-20. Just when Westmont appeared to have the momentum, CSUDH rallied to take the fourth set 25-20, pushing the match to a decisive fifth set.
 
In the final set, the Toros seized control, winning 15-9, and sealing a hard-fought victory to start the tournament.
 
Ava Hurry led the charge with an impressive 13 kills from 38 attempts, bolstering the offense with a .263 hitting percentage and accumulating 14.5 points. Camila Sanchez-Tellez and Jesi Diekmann both contributed strongly, each tallying 12.5 points, with Sanchez-Tellez scoring 11 kills and Diekmann racking up seven kills and three blocks. Teagan Irish also made her presence felt, adding 10 kills and five blocks to the scoreboard. Bailey Fuches stood out in her setting role, assisting 31 times, and Nina Robles showed defensive prowess with 16 digs.
 
This win adds to a promising tournament run for the Toros. Next match is set for a 2:30pm start today against Academy of Art.
