POMONA — The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros showed teamwork and resilience, but were unable to secure a victory, falling 0-3 to a formidable nationally ranked No. 18 Cal Poly Pomona Broncos side in a tightly contested volleyball match.
The Toros, despite showing glimpses of brilliance, couldn't find a way through the solid defense of the Broncos in the first set, ending 20-25. The second set brought more of the same, with the Toros fighting for every point but falling short, 22-25. The third set proved to be the most challenging, with the Toros concluding it at 13-25.
Despite the result, several Toros delivered commendable performances.
Teagan Irish led the charge with 6 kills and a .600 hitting percentage, racking up 6.5 points.
Kilyn Hayes fought hard, contributing another 6 kills and 6 points.
Ava Hurry showed tenacity with 4 kills and 5 points.
The creative duo of
Bailey Fuches and
Evania Sanchez orchestrated most of the Toros' offensive plays, providing 14 and 12 assists, respectively. Sanchez also showcased her defensive skills, contributing with 9 significant digs, while
Nina Robles led the defensive line with a remarkable 21 digs.
The Toros next match is on Friday, September 29
th against San Francisco State at 5pm in the Torodome.
