IRVINE, Calif. – After defeated the University of Colorado Springs in a decisive 3-1, the Toros were unable to match the Wayne State College Wildcats momentum, falling 3-0 in the final game of the day.
GAME ONE
The opening set saw the Mountain Lions seize a commanding lead, taking it with a score of 25-20. However, the Toros swiftly turned the tide, dominating the subsequent three sets with scores of 25-17, 25-20, and 25-17, culminating in their triumph. Notably, CSUDH showcased their formidable presence at the net, amassing an impressive tally of 16 blocks against UCCS.
Ava Hurry once again emerged as a standout performer for the Toros, leading the team in kills for the second consecutive game. Hurry executed a remarkable 10 kills out of 28 total attacks. Irish Teagan also made a significant impact, contributing eight kills for CSUDH while notching seven block assists during the match.
Bailey Fuches orchestrated the Toros' offensive maneuvers with precision, delivering 23 assists while also showcasing her defensive prowess with eight digs and three aces. Assisting in directing the offense was
Evania Sanchez, who skillfully gathered 16 assists, four digs, and a crucial kill.
GAME TWO
During the opening set against Wayne State College, CSUDH remained in close contention with the Wildcats but ultimately succumbed, yielding the set 25-21. In the subsequent two sets, the Toros grappled with the relentless pressure imposed by WSC, resulting in consecutive 25-8 set losses.
Notably, Hurry displayed exceptional effort for the third occasion throughout the tournament, amassing an impressive tally of 13 kills. Additionally, Hurry contributed significantly to the defensive effort with nine digs and served an ace during the game.
Looking ahead, the Toros are set to embark on their journey to Rohnert Park, where they will participate in the Seawolves/Penguins Classic. Their first match is scheduled against Westmont College on Friday, September 8th, at 10 a.m.
