In Season Opener, Toros Fall to the Golden Eagles, 3-1

IRVINE, Calif. – After the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros won the second set 25-19 to tie the game 1-1, the Concordia University Golden Eagles claimed the last two sets to down the Toros, 3-1.
 
The Toros' formidable front line demonstrated their dominance, amassing an impressive total of 12 blocks against the Golden Eagles' commendable eight. Both teams showcased their serving prowess with five aces each. With this hard-fought victory, Cal State Dominguez Hills now stands at 5-5 in their encounters with Concordia University Irvine.
 
Camila Sanchez-Tellez, leading the charge for the Toros, exhibited her all-around skill, contributing a notable 11 kills, seven crucial block assists, and an additional six digs. Ava Hurry closely followed suit, leaving her mark on the stat sheet with 10 powerful kills, 15 pivotal digs, and two expertly executed aces. Kayly Pau added to the Toros' offensive firepower with her nine kills, complemented by an assist and a dig.
 
In a closely contested battle, the Golden Eagles secured the first set in dramatic fashion, claiming victory in extra points with a score of 26-24. However, the Toros swiftly rallied, asserting their dominance in the second set with a commanding 25-19 win. Despite this resurgence from Cal State Dominguez Hills to even the score at 1-1, Concordia University Irvine surged ahead, clinching the last two sets with scores of 25-22 and 25-16.
 
The Toros continue their tournament run in Irvine, setting their sights on a showdown with Azusa Pacific on September 1st at 11:30 am.
