Wildcats Spoil Senior Day With 4-3 Comeback Win

Box Score CARSON -- Senior Aaron Greenfield and teammate Vincent Temesvary both went deep for Cal State Dominguez Hills, but visiting Chico State scored single runs in the 9th and 10th innings to spoil Senior Day for the Toros.

CSUDH, still sitting in 7th in the CCAA standings, has four games left in the regular season to move up to 6th place to earn a berth in the CCAA Championship Tournament.

After the two power hitters gave the Toros a 3-2 lead in the 8th, the hosts looked to win the series despite a one-out triple.  After fanning the next batter, Chris Cornelius induced a routine ground ball to shortstop Miguel Marin which would've ended the game.

Marin's throw, however, was on a bounce and got by first baseman Accordino, allowing the tying run to score and sending the game into extras.

Another miscue doomed the Toros in the 10th as Chico State had a runner on third base with two out.  After reliever Dane Baker threw his second pitch to Wildcat hitter Andrew Crane, Toro catcher Andrew Buglino short-hopped the throw back to Baker, which scooted under his glove and allowed the eventual winning run to score.

Eric Smelko roped a pair of hits in the loss to bring the Toros to 21-25 overall, and 16-20 in the CCAA.

CSUDH travels to Cal State San Bernardino next weekend to conclude the regular season.
