Box Score 2 TURLOCK -- Cal State Dominguez Hills head coach
Jim Maier earned his 700th win as head coach of a college program, with 572 coming at the helm of the Cal State Dominguez Hills ship, after today's 4-2 opening-day win at Stanislaus State.
The Toros completed the afternoon with a 7-1 victory in the nightcap to sweep the Friday afternoon set as
Raquel Jaime set the single-season record for walks in the process.
CSUDH maintained its 5th-place standing in the CCAA, with six games left in the regular season, just 1/2 game behind both CS Monterey Bay and CS San Marcos for third place.
Kaylee Hull got the Toros off on the right foot, knocking a 2RBI double with the bases full to bring home a pair of runs.Â
Alani Nguyen followed with a line shot to center for a sacrifice fly, giving CSUDH a 3-0 lead.
That's where the score stood until the hosts scored twice to make it a game, before
Alex Davis went yard for a much-needed insurance run in the 7th to secure Maier's 700th win of his college coaching career.
Starter
Alyssa Olague improved to 10-5 on the year, tossing 4.0 innings of two-hit, shutout ball, with
Sara Bhatt earning the save with 2.1 innings in relief.
CSUDH continued its offensive prowess in the nightcap with six runs in their first four trips to the plate, with Hull again starting the scoring with a 2RBI double in the 1st inning, followed by a Warrior error for the Toros' third run of the frame.
After
Nayah Pola brought Hull home in the 3rd with an RBI knock, Hull went deep with
Raquel Jaime on board for a 6-0 lead.
Stan spoiled the shutout with a bases-loaded walk in the 4th, but
Alyssa Yslas earned that run back with an RBI single in the 5th to account for the final scoring.
Hull enjoyed a monstrous game, going 3-for-4 with 4RBI and 3 runs scored, while Jaime's free pass in the 1st inning was her 33rd of the year, breaking the three-way tie for most walks in a single-season, previously shared by All-Americans Emiley McEwen (2009) and Adriana Sanchez (2014).
Olague improved to 11-5 with the win, tossing 4.0 innings of 5-hit ball, fanning three against one walk.
Ashley Wies came in for the final 3.0 innings, allowing just one hit.
The two teams conclude their four-game set tomorrow morning, with first pitch of game one set for 11 am at the Warrior Softball Field.
