SAN FRANCISCO -- Cal State Dominguez Hills suffered a pair of losses today at Maloney Field, falling to host San Francisco State by 8-3 and 7-6 scores.
The Toros fall to 12-10 overall, and 7-5 in the CCAA.
The hosts took a commanding 7-0 lead after six innings in the opener before the Toros got on the board in the 7th. In that frame,
Eric Smelko led off with a solo shot, with
Vincent Temesvary (pictured) duplicating his teammate's blast two batters later to cut into CSUDH's deficit.
Inspired by his teammate's results an inning before,
Andrew Buglino went yard to open the 8th to cut another run of CSUDH's deficit, only to have the Gators get a run back in the bottom of the 8th to account for the final tally.
Temesvary went 3-for-4 in the opener, with Smelko,
Emilio Barrera and Marin knocking a pair of hits in the loss.
Zach Geiss took the loss, lasting just 4.0 innings while allowing five earned runs.
In the nightcap, the hosts roared to a 6-0 lead after two innings, where it stayed until the 5th.
In the frame, Temesvary displayed his power stroke, belting a 3-run blast to left on the first pitch he saw. Ogrin followed suit on the very next pitch to cut the score to 6-4, donning momentum in Cardinal and Gold.
Barrera greeted SFSU's reliever with a solo blast of his own in the 6th, before Smelko drove home
Grant Decatrel with the tying run three batters later after Decatrel was plunked with a pitch.
SFSU had the last word, however, scoring on a wild pitch in the 6th to account for the final score.
Justin Abercrombie enjoyed a 3-for-3 effort, with Greenfield joining Ogrin with two hits in the loss.
The two teams conclude their series tomorrow, with first pitch set for 12 noon on Maloney Field.
