CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills'
DJ Guest and
Cameron Barry (pictured) tied for game-high scoring honors with 17 points each, but visiting Cal Poly Pomona used a +10 advantage on the boards to take an 81-67 win over the host Toros today in the Torodome.
The loss, CSUDH's seventh-straight, drops the Toros to 8-14 overall, and 4-12 in the CCAA.
A
Damien Miller jumper and
Cameron Barry triple got the Toros off on the right foot, before CPP tied the game with five-straight points of its own.
CPP then went on a 16-8 run to take a 21-13 lead with 11:44 left in the half, before a
David Cheatom flush breathed life into the cardinal and gold.
The Broncos, however, opened up a 14-point lead on three occasions later in the frame, only to have
Andre Ball score four points down the stretch, leading to a Barry 3-pointer with a few seconds left to bring CSUDH to within 40-38 entering the half.
After the Toros took a 43-42 lead on a triple by
Jordan Hilstock less than two minutes into the second half, CPP caught fire while the Toros went cold, resulting in a 55-45 Bronco lead.
The CPP lead grew to 69-52 at the 9:11 mark, with the Broncos keeping their lead in double-figures the rest of the way in the eventual 14-point win.
Cheatom added 12 and Ball 10 in the loss, with Ball's 10 boards giving him the game's lone double-double.
CSUDH will look to end its skid at Sonoma State on Thursday, with tip set for 7:30 pm.
