CHICO -- After a record-setting regular season that culminated with a dominant 26-1 record in the California Collegiate Athletic Association and a regular-season championship, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team came away with four of the top five individual honors as the CCAA announced its All-Conference selections.
Senior
Dawnyel Lair was named the CCAA Player of the Year and CCAA Defensive Player of the Year while true freshman
Nala Williams earned CCAA Freshman of the Year honors.
Currently in his seventh season, head coach
John Bonner was named the CCAA Coach of the Year for after leading the program to its first regular-season title since 2015-16, and is the sixth time in program history a Toro has won the award and first since 1996-97.
Lair's Player of the Year honor marks the sixth time a Toro has won the league's top honor and the first since 1995-96, and her Defensive Player of the Year is the first such nod for the program. Williams' Freshman of the Year honor, meanwhile, is the program's second such award and first since 2002-03. Williams also was tabbed a 2nd-team All-CCAA selection for her initial foray into intercollegiate basketball.

Asia Jordan, as well as Honorable Mention All-CCAA selections in
Joe'l Benoit and
Danyell Booker.
Lair did it all on both ends of the floor for the Toro machine, placing amongst the top producers in the CCAA. She led the league in rebounds per game, FG%, and steals, finished 2nd in assists, and 4th in points per game. Additionally, she placed 7th in assist/turnover ratio and 12th in FT% and blocks, illustrating her all-around game. She scored in double-figures in 21 of 24 games and ranks 6th in the NCAA in FG% and also came up with stellar efforts when they counted most. This included finishing an assist shy of a triple-double against No. 14 Alaska Anchorage and scoring 24 points against No. 18 CS San Marcos, ending the game with a crucial block.
On her squad, she led the Toros in points, PPG, rebounds, RPG assists, steals, and blocks, while earning four CCAA Player of the Week nods and one D2SIDA Player of the Week honor.
Williams made her presence felt after exchanging her Long Beach Poly green and gold for CSUDH's cardinal this year. The freshman finished 3rd in the CCAA in steals, 6th in assist/turnover ratio, 7th in assists, 9th in FG%, 11th in PPG, 12th in 3-pointers made per game, and 25th in RPG.
On the team, Williams was second to Lair in points, PPG, assists, and steals, finishing 3rd in rebounds, RPG and T5th in blocks.
Sophomore Jordan repeats as a 1st-team All-CCAA selection after a solid season, finishing 2nd in the CCAA in FG%, 9th in RPG, 11th in FT%, 12th in PPG and steals, and 17th in blocks.
Amongst her teammates, Jordan finished 2nd in rebounds, RPG and blocks, 3rd in points and PPG, 4th in steals.
Benoit and Booker make their debuts on the all-conference team, giving the Toros five players who earned league accolades.
Booker ended the regular season 4th on the team in PPG, rebounds and RPG, and tied for 5th in blocks and points while Benoit finished 4th on the team in points and 5th in PPG, rebounds, RPG, assists, and steals.Â
Bonner's 14-win turnaround marks the largest differential in program history, with at least two games left in the season. Having led his teams to three of the past four CCAA tournaments, Bonner orchestrated this year's squad to the most wins in program history (27), the most consecutive wins to begin a season (19), the most consecutive wins overall (19), and to its highest ranking ever (No. 4). The Toros rank second in NCAA Division II with over 25 free throw attempts per game, 5th in made free throws, 7th in steals, 12th in scoring and 13th in rebound margin.
The Toros earned a bye as the top seed and will play on Friday night at 8 pm.
