No. 4/6 Toros End Magical Regular Season With Convincing Win at CSUMB

Second season begins next week as top seed in CCAA Tournament

Box Score SEASIDE -- The magical regular season for No. 4/6 Cal State Dominguez Hills ended with another dominating win, this time a 92-65 decision over Cal State Monterey Bay to end the season with its 27th win, a program record.

Freshman Nala Williams led all players with 20 points as six CCAA regular season champion Toros finished with at least 11.

For all intents and purposes, the game was over after the Toros took a 28-8 lead after the first quarter, shooting 40.9% while holding the Otters to just two baskets made and a 14.3 success rate from the floor.  In that quarter, the staunch Toro defense caused 12 turnovers which led to the insurmountable lead.

With CSUDH up 10-6, an Asia Jordan jumper spurred an 18-1 run, capped by a Dawnyel Lair old-fashioned 3-point play.

The second quarter saw the lead grow to 32-10 after a Jorday layup, with the lead hovering near the 20-point mark the rest of the period.

CSUDH's lead reached 28 thrice after the break, the last coming on a Williams layup with 3:43 left in the frame, before a Deejanae Poland layup with 2:31 left in the final quarter gave CSUDH its largest lead at 92-59.

Jordan added 16, Joe'l Benoit 14, Danyell Booker, Poland 12, and Lair 11 to round out the balanced Toro attack, with Lair's 13 boards pacing CSUDH on the boards as the visitors pulled down five more rebounds in the win.

CSUDH's hands also were in effect, stealing 20 balls compared to nine for the hosts, with the Otters turning the ball over 34 times to just 19 for the Cardinal and Gold.

The top-seeded Toros next look to the CCAA Tournament, and will play the winner of the No. 4 Cal Poly Pomona / No. 5 Chico State matchup on Friday at 8 pm.
