NAMPA, Idaho -- After sweeping the CCAA Player and Pitcher of the Week honors for last week's dominating performances, first baseman
Anthony Accordino and pitcher
Nico Martinez added higher honors as the duo swept the NCWBA Player and Pitcher of the West Region honors, it was announced today.
Accordino went 8-for-13 with three doubles and drove in seven runs in the Toros' four-game series sweep over New Mexico Highlands. The junior first baseman batted .615 against the Cowboys to help CSUDH out-score NMHU 44-4. He had a .846 slugging percentage and was on base 13 times in 18 plate appearances (.722). The junior collected two hits in each game and drove in two runs in three of the four games played. He also scored a total of five runs and drew a walk in each contest.Â
Martinez tossed a seven-inning no-hitter in the Toros' 8-0 win over New Mexico Highlands last Friday. He was just a walk away from a perfect game. He needed just 87 pitches to record the program's fifth no-hitter and first since 2010. Martinez retired the first 16 batters in order before issuing a 11-pitch walk in the sixth.
The Toros conclude their non-conference schedule next week at Azusa Pacific.
