CARSON – In a game of two halves, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros battled through a physical matchup to secure a 71-56 victory against Concordia University Irvine Golden Eagles.
The first half saw CUI taking the lead, outscoring the Toros 31-28. In a remarkable turnaround, the Toros dominated after halftime, outscoring CUI 43-25. Their offensive execution improved significantly, and defensively, they were able to clamp down on CUI's scoring opportunities. This impressive second-half performance was characterized by a more aggressive approach on both ends of the court.
"I'm really proud of our guys tonight" said coach
Steve Becker. "Concordia is a very good team and coached by a legend in Ken Amman, and we found a way to finish the game. Our defense did a great job keeping us in the game while we adapted offensively to the pressure CUI plays with. This was a good college basketball game and I'm proud we came out with the win."
The final score of 71-56 reflected the Toros' resilience and ability to get to the basket and capitalize on free throw opportunities'. The win was highlighted by significant contributions from the Toros roster.
Jeremy Dent-Smith led the Toros in scoring with an impressive 20 points. He was highly efficient, shooting 8-13 from the field and 2-6 from three-point range. Dent-Smith also contributed four rebounds and two assists, showcasing his all-around impact on the game.
Adding significant firepower was
Jakob Alamudun who scored 16 points, shooting 5-13 from the field and 1-3 from beyond the arc. Alamudun was also perfect from the free-throw line, hitting 5-5. He led the team in rebounding with eight boards, contributing to both the offensive and defensive efforts.
DJ Guest also hit double figures as he scored 10 points, including 1-3 from three-point range. Guest also dished out three assists and grabbed three rebounds, playing a crucial role in the Toros' offensive execution.
With a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line,
Andre Ball scored six points and grabbed six rebounds on the game.
Alex Garcia added eight points and six rebounds off the bench while
Za-Ontay Boothman contributed seven points in 17 minutes of play, adding depth to the Toros' attack.
The Toros travel to La Mirada this Saturday, November 25
th to take on Biola with tipoff set for 4pm.
