Santa Rosa- In the penultimate match of the 2023 season, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros were able to overcome a few costly mistakes and defeated the Sonoma State Seawolves by a score of  3-2.

An own goal by the Toros in the 29th minute put the team behind early. Not to be outdone, the Seawolves made a mistake of their own in the 44th minute that allowed Ethan Jacobs to hammer home a shot in the bottom left corner to enter the half with the momentum and even the score.

In the second half is where things picked up even more. A Jhoel Sarraude goal in the 75th minute hit the back of the net and gave the Toros the lead 2-1. The Seawolves answered right back and scored off of a free kick in the 76th minute and neutralized the score 2-2. The crazy three minute sequence finished with a Michael McKibbon goal in the top left corner assisted by Martin Velasquez gave the Toros the lead 3-2, and they never looked back.

The Toros showed up in Santa Rosa after having the game moved from Sonoma State's campus due to field issues in a major way as Martin Velasquez's two assists and Diego Barahona had one while having two shots on goal. The defensive prowess of  Zane Bumgardt and Cland Iwasaki helped goalkeeper Arturo Magana make five saves.

Substitutes Kenny Lee and Christian Briseno came in to shore up the midfield and give the Toros a much needed boost with each logging over 35 minutes.

The Toros final match of the 2023 season is on Thursday, November 2nd  against Cal State LA at the Jesse Owens Track with kickoff set for 11:30 a.m.
