TURLOCK --
DJ Guest (pictured) and
Cameron Barry combined for 31 points to help lead the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros men's basketball team to a key 68-56 road win over host Stanisalus State, marking the fourth win in their past five contests.
CSUDH outrebounded the Warriors by 13 and converted on 80% of its free throws that included a perfect 4-for-4 in the second half to move to 7-6 overall, and 3-4 in the CCAA.
The teams split the first 18 points before a
Damien Miller layup, Guest jumper and 3-pointer by Guest gave the visitors a 19-12 lead. The Warriors replied with a 5-0 run of their own before
Jordan Hilstock hit a triple to bring CSUDH's lead to 22-17 at the 11:07 mark.
Stan State scored four-straight to get to within a point, only to have Miller answer with a jumper to keep the Toros ahead, eventually taking a 35-32 lead into the locker room.
The Warriors found their stroke to start the second half, scoring the first five points to take a 37-35 lead with a minute gone by.
Behind two buckets by Guest and one by
David Cheatom, however, CSUDH took a 41-37 lead at the 15:27 mark in what would prove to be a back-and forth battle early in the period.
That all changed with 6:21 left and the Toros holding a 56-54 lead as the Cardinal and Gold went on a 12-2 run to close the game, with Guest and Barry combining for 10 of CSUDH's points down the stretch.
Hilstock and
DeMorian Lowe pulled down seven rebounds apiece while Miller dished nine assists in the effort.
CSUDH returns home Monday to host CS San Bernardino in a make-up contest from earlier this season, with first tip set for 7:30 pm.
