CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills' sophomore forward
DJ Guest led all scorers with 21 points as the Toros took a workman-like 75-64 win over visiting Cal State Monterey Bay Thursday night in the Torodome, their fifth win in the past seven contests.
Cameron Barry added 13 and
Eric Watson 10 to round out the double-figure scorers as CSUDH shot 49.1% from the field and an even hotter 53.3% from downtown in the win.
Conversely, the Toros held the Otters to 40% shooting from the floor and just 26.1% from downtown, highlighting CSUDH's stingy perimeter defense.
Trailing 7-2 with just under two minutes elapsed, the Toros went on a 25-10 run over the next 13 minutes to take a 27-17 lead, capped by a
Damien Miller jumper in the paint.
The Otters crept to within two before
Jordan Hilstock converted three free throws after getting fouled on a 3-point attempt, with Guest capping the run with two of his game-high 21 before entering the half up 42-34.
CSUMBÂ opened the second half with an 8-0 run to catch the Toros, only to have
David Cheatom begin CSUDH's 9-point run with a bucket at the 15:52 mark, and
Andre Ball finish it with a deep triple.
The lead hovered around the 10-point mark, with Miller giving CSUDH its largest lead of the game at 75-61 before an Otter 3-pointer closed the scoring in the eventual 11-point decision.
CSUDH welcomes San Francisco State on Saturday to conclude the conference homestand, with tip set for 3 pm.
