Box Score CARSON -- Inspired by this morning's pregame Senior Day ceremony, senior
Kevin Moscoso belted two home runs as Cal State Dominguez Hills took an 11-7 win over visiting Sonoma State to conclude the four-game set, the third win over the Seawolves this weekend in which CSUDH has scored at least 10 runs.
Coupled with Cal State East Bay's loss to Cal State San Bernardino earlier this afternoon and the Toros having won three of four from SSU, CSUDH needs just one win at Cal Poly Pomona next weekend to qualify for the CCAA Championship Tournament, with just four games remaining in the regular season.
After SSU put two on the board in its first at-bat, Moscoso tied the game with a monster shot to left field.
With the game again knotted at 3-3 entering the bottom of the 4th, an
Emilio Barrera RBI double broke the tie before a
Matt Mecate sac fly gave the Toros 5-3 cushion.
Both teams scored a run in the 6th before SSU took a 7-6 lead with three in the 7th, only to see the hosts retake the lead for good after a SSU passed ball and bases loaded hit batter, with
Caleb Ellis wearing the 1-0 offering.
Nursing an 8-7 lead, Moscoso added his second long ball of the day, a no-doubter to deep left, to bring home
Alberto Luevano who reached before him. Barrera then brought home
Pierson Loska on a fielder's choice to account for the game's final scoring.
Moscoso drove in four with his two blasts, the second time this year he has enjoyed a multi-home run game.
Eric Smelko, still inspired by yesterday's Miley Cyrus classic walk up song, belted two hits and was joined by Moscoso and Loska with a pair of knocks.
Donovan Waitman picked up the win to improve to 2-2, tossing 2.0 innings with two Ks and two hits allowed.
The Toros conclude the regular season next weekend at Cal Poly Pomona, needing just one win to clinch a berth in the CCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015.
