Box Score CARSON -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team managed just five hits on the day against visiting San Francisco State, but capitalized on three Gator errors to take a 7-4 win this morning on Toro Field, and win the season series three games to one.
The Toros improve to 8-6 overall, and 3-1 in the CCAA.
After the Gators took a 1-0 lead after their first at-bat, the Toros equalized after
Eric Smelko reached on a SFSU error, and scored on an
Anthony Accordino RBI double to left.
SFSU scored single runs in the 5th and 6th to take a 3-2 lead, only to have the hosts bring home five in the 7th to take the lead for good. With two runners on,
Scott Ogrin laced a double down the left field line to tie the game, and after a bases loaded walk, another Gator error brought home two unearned runs for a 7-3 lead.
The visitors made it interesting in their final at-bat by putting the first two batters of the frame on against
Giovanni Besio, but the junior righty retired the final three Gator batters in order to close the series win.
Five different Toros knocked a hit each, with
Pierson Loska scoring twice.
Starter
Nate Ortiz tossed 6.0 innings for the win, fanning five against two walks.
The Toros take to the road next weekend, traveling to Stanislaus State for a four-game CCAA series.
