Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Seeley Helps Seal the Deal as Toros Take Down Seawolves for Season Sweep

ROHNERT PARK -- Senior Chris Seeley continued his inspired play down the season's final stretch, pouring in a game-high 23 points while pulling down a game-high nine boards as the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team swept the season series against Sonoma State, handing the hosts a 75-71 setback in a pivotal California Collegiate Athletic Association contest.

With the wins over Cal Poly Humboldt and Sonoma this week, the Toros (10-8, 8-5 CCAA) keep themselves in fifth place in the CCAA standings with four games to play. Because the omicron variant forced CCAA schools to miss many games, the conference will continue to take six into the CCAA Tournament in Humboldt in March, but will now look at win percentage. The Toros own a .615 winning percentile with sixth-place SF State sitting at .500 after losing a heartbreaker to Chico State.

Dominguez Hills is also chasing Cal State San Marcos, which is at .769 and had played the same number of games as the Toros at 13.

Although the Toros had led for a majority of the game, including a 42-23 lead at halftime, they nearly saw what was a 20-point lead all but disappear in the end. Sonoma got to within four (74-68) with 34 seconds left. Colten Kresl made a pair of critical free throws 12 seconds later but the Seawolves countered with a free throw of their own to get to within five with nine seconds left. Seeley made 1-of-2 free throws to provide the cushion needed for the win.

Kresl bounced back from a quiet performance in Humboldt by scoring 19 points against Sonoma. Andre Ball added 10 off the bench.

Sonoma was led by Kenny Olsem, who had 18 points off the bench.

The Toros return to the Torodome to wrap up the 2021-22 home schedule starting Thursday with Cal State Monterey Bay at 7:30 p.m. It'll be their first meeting since the Otters were placed on COVID-19 protocols when the Toros were supposed to visit the Kelp Bed last month.
